Spirits walk among us, not just on Halloween. The spiritual realm is full of good, bad, and the unknown. Angels are examples of good spirits, but not all angels are good (Satan was a fallen angel after all). Spirits of loved ones who have passed from this earth, who have not transitioned to Heaven, could be conflicted, struggling, or lost as they hang out in places like your house. People who see or sense spirits are called seers or discerners in the Bible (1 Cor 12:10). I don’t see them, but I sense (feel) their presence. I walk in the spiritual gifting of discernment (by feeling/emotions). Sometimes I think that God wants me to open myself up to seeing in the spirit, but I don’t feel ready. Sensing their presence through feelings/emotions is already a lot to handle! My daughter, however, can see them.
When we vacationed, the house where we stayed was modern, beautiful, but full of conflicted and dark spirits. My daughter saw them and I sensed their presence. For a couple days, I felt oddly worn out, despondent and on edge. I didn’t realize they were there until the end of our stay, when we finally took spiritual authority over the property and prayed. Sometimes, I sense spirits in my home, but they are good angels. Angels who look out for me and my family, help me find lost objects, and feel like companions.
The Bible tells us to use the authority that Christ gives us to command spirits to leave (Mark 16: 17-18). If you follow Christ, you have the authority to tell evil spirits to leave your home (or wherever you see them). Simply cast them out in Jesus’ name and pray over the property. My husband and I like to bless our home with scripture that offers protection, love, and peace. Just recently, God reminded me to make praying over our home a regular thing (we had gotten away from it for a while). We walk through every room of the house (basement and garages), pray, make declarations, and recite scripture. We feel a clearing of the environment when we’re done.
Spirits are everywhere, whether you believe in them or not. They can attach to people who come into your home, but then decide to stay when your guest goes home. They can attach to you at any given time and oppress your mind, body, soul, and environment (there is also demonic possession, but that’s another problem and article). How do you know if spirits are bothering you? It’s tricky. When you feel out of sorts, that’s usually an indication–when you just don’t feel like yourself. I often feel a sense of profound heaviness when I pick up on someone else’s energy. When you hang out with someone and feel drained, that’s an indication that something about that person’s energy doesn’t resonate with yours (and it could be a spirit). If all is going well and something just comes out of nowhere and consumes you, it could be a negative spiritual entity.
Don’t panic or waste your time calling Ghost Busters. Simply call up Jesus, get out your sword of the spirt (reread Ephesians 6), and start slaying demons like nobody’s business. Negative spirits will try to control your life and those around if you’re not standing guard. They’re sneaky and subtle at first, so be on the lookout so you don’t get spooked.
