The enemy loves to wreak havoc on marriage because it’s one of the biggest blessings God gives us. There is power in numbers, and when two or more gather in His name, watch out. The enemy doesn’t want two equally yoked individuals working together in God’s Kingdom. So, if you’ve got a good marriage, continue working hard to safeguard it. If yours is on the fritz, rest assured that all relationships go through seasons of hardship. If you’re tight with God but your partner isn’t, don’t lose hope. We are in a season of restoration, signs, wonders, and miracles. Now is not the time to give up. People are turning to God in record numbers!
Here are a few tips to spiritually strengthen your marriage:
*Pray for your Spouse—Each and every day. Talk to God about whatever is on your mind. Keep it light some days and jam-packed on others. If nothing comes to mind, even a simple prayer has power, “God, thank you for my spouse. Please bless him/her today with your peace and joy.”
*Pray for Yourself—Each and every day. I have found that I get the best results when I ask God to strengthen my areas of weakness. I was focusing too much on my partner’s behavior and not enough on mine. If we start praying for correction in our character flaws, imagine the possibilities.
*Pray Together—Find time to sit down for a few minutes, breathe, touch, and thank God for something he’s given your marriage. Ask Him for what it needs to heal.
*Trust—In His time and way. It’s seldom the way you envision. Sometimes He heals things quick and easy, but a lot of times it’s slow and painful. Pray for the endurance you need to stay the course.
*Give in More—Marriage is about dying to the ego-driven needs of the self and concentrating on the needs of the partner. You aren’t necessarily being a pushover if you give in from time to time. Most times, obstinance is the biggest barrier toward reconciliation.
*Play Together—Carving out time for date night is important. Time together away from work, the kids, and household responsibilities will rejuvenate you as a couple.
Whatever you’re facing in your marriage, know that you are not alone. Every relationship has areas of weakness that are tested regularly. When you give your marriage to God, He will deliver you from them in His time and way.
